Prophecy is what separates Christianity from all other religions. Consider this:
Imagine I predicted 1,000 years in advance the exact city the President of the United States would be born in, his exact birth date, what nationality he would be, what family he would come from, what kind of car he would drive, where he would go to school, what his name would be, what his father and mother’s names would be, how old he would be when he died, when he would die, how he would die, plus dozens of his most significant accomplishments all in specific detail, and I was 100% accurate on every count. Would that be a miracle? That is exactly what the Bible did in reference to Jesus and to world events!
According to PhD astrophysicists and qualified American scientists, the odds of the more than 2,500 prophecies found in the Bible being fulfilled by chance are 1 with 2,000 zeros after it. According to the mathematical science of probability, if a number has more than 50 zeros after it, the odds of that happening by chance are virtually impossible. This is irrefutable proof that the Bible is truly inspired by God!
Jesus claimed to be God. He not only said He was God, (since anyone can say that) He did things only God could do to prove His claim. If God came to earth as a man you would expect that He would say and do things that would clearly distinguish Him from all other men.
The Bible tells the story of when the religious leaders of the day (called the Pharisees) sent the temple guards to go and arrest Jesus and bring Him in for questioning. The temple guards returned without Him. Here is the story from John 7:45-46,
The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?” The officers answered, “Never did a man speak the way this man speaks.”
To discover this truth yourself, you need to read the words Jesus Himself. Truly, no man ever spoke like Jesus did before or since. Chapters 5-7 of the book of Matthew reflect the most profound wisdom the world has ever known. Many of the world’s most infamous people have read these three chapters and have been changed forever.
Consider the life of Christ
“This Jesus of Nazareth, without money and arms, conquered more millions than Alexander, Caesar, Mohammed, and Napoleon; without science and learning, He shed more light on things human and divine than all philosophers and scholars combined; without the eloquence of schools, He spoke such words of life as were never spoken before or since and produced effects which lie beyond the reach of orator or poet; without writing a single line, He set more pens in motion, and furnished themes for more sermons, orations, discussions, learned volumes, works of art, and songs of praise, than the whole army of great men of ancient and modern times.” —Philip Schaff
More on the life of Christ in our next post (God willing). Thanks for reading.
Grace and peace to you and yours,
